Career Opportunities

The Office of Budget and Management offers exciting opportunities for career-oriented individuals interested in such professional fields as public or business administration, accounting, and information technology. The office typically recruits for the following positions:

Budget/Management Analysts assist in preparation of the Governor's operating and capital budget recommendations, analyze and monitor state agencies' spending against appropriations, and analyze legislation to determine its fiscal and/or programmatic impact on the state. Budget/Management Analysts typically have a graduate degree in public or business administration and some public sector work experience.

Financial Reporting Accountants assist in publication of the Ohio Budgetary Financial Report and the Ohio Comprehensive Annual Financial Report prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles or coordinate and oversee the state's Internal Accounting Control Program. Financial Reporting Accountants traditionally hold an undergraduate degree in accounting and at least one year of experience as an accountant.

Programmer/Analysts develop and maintain the state's mainframe, reporting database and client-based applications supporting the Central Accounting System. Programmer/Analysts generally have an undergraduate degree in computer programming and/or related programming experience.

College Interns assist full-time staff in both the State Accounting and Budget Sections. Candidates must be actively enrolled in college and have attained at least a sophomore level to be eligible for a college internship. Common fields of study for interns include public or business administration, political science, accounting, finance or economics.
